Music Festival Season Brings Great Volunteer Opportunities

Spring is here, and with it comes a contagious buzz of anticipation that rings in the ears of music lovers everywhere: music festival season. But wait a minute – if you’re clearing your springtime schedule to make room for Coachella, SXSW, and Ultra, who’s going to diligently send out your job applications to those studios and record labels you’re dying to work for? Sometimes long days of great weather, tailgating, and jamming to world-class live music have to take a back seat to your career ambitions. Or does it? Plan your festival season around volunteering at these great venues to get the best of springtime raging - with the bonus of practical career experience and networking.

Start festival season off right by volunteering in the laid-back, beach environment of Hangout Fest. That’s not saying you won’t earn your keep as a volunteer. You’ll have the option of working before, during, or after the show on no less than three six-hour shifts. When you’re not working, you’re free to hang out – all volunteers get a general admission three-day pass.

Manchester, TN

Before you head too far back north, join the C’roo (that’s what they call their volunteers)! From greeting entrants to site setup, you’ll get the chance to be an integral part of the operation and success of one of the country’s best festivals. You may even rub shoulders with some of the biggest names and sponsors in the music industry. It gets better – how about easy access to the shows whenever you’re not working, free showers, a meal token after every shift, and the chance to receive scholarships, internships, and job placement assistance inside the music business?

Chicago, IL
July 31 – August 2

2015 lineup includes…

  • Paul McCartney
  • Metallica
  • Sam Smith
  • Bassnectar

How about making an end-of-summer trip to the Windy City? In addition to helping set the stage for Sir Paul, you’ll be able to indulge in some of Chicago’s tastiest food and sample goods from some of the world’s best artisans. Inquire about volunteering at Lolla now before summer even starts!

Once you have your volunteer opportunities nailed down, it wouldn’t hurt to keep your eye on some job openings in the music industry, which you’ll be able to apply for with a whole festival season’s worth of experience.
